First off, let me say that I have owned a 2003 FXD SuperGlide since new, and I love it. Hopped up with exhaust, gear drive cam kit and Andrews TW-37G cams. She is a sweet little hot rod.
My dilemma began last fall when my wife all of a sudden took a liking to riding with me. Now this girl will not ride anything but the train ride at an amusement park, and for years she would go for more than a mile or two on the back of the bike, so it is a surprise to find her brave enough to ride a motorcycle. I really enjoy her company, as it is much more pleasurable doing things together.
The problem arises in the fact that the Dyna just isn't cutting it in the suspension department when two up riding. I have demo'd a few touring bikes and found their suspension to be markedly more compliant.
I am thinking of either a Road King Classic or a Road Glide. The problem with the Road Glide is that I am 6' 2" tall, and I have not found the factory windshield high enough to soften the wind blast to my head. With the forward position of the fairing, is it really possible to achieve wind protection with my height??
Yes, Cleariview makes a replacement windshield that from what i have here is a better shield than stock and they have soem nice height options http://www.clearviewshields.com/ is the website, but be prepared to wait, they got hit with a major spring rush and lose of a employee or 2 , im currently still waiting after 6 weeks, now they did tell me up front that it would be 5 to 6 weeks and im anxiously awaiting it, but from i have heard they make a damn fine product
Another option: Road GlideÂŽ Windshield - Tall, Clear The tall windshield is approximately 3" taller than stock (18.5" tall) and is hard-coated for durability. 58283-04A
I just installed this windshield this spring and it has made all the difference in the world.

HD Tall windshield will not do as well as the CLEARVIEW - As you can get better wind blockage from the CLEARVIEW (because of the curved edge and wider) then the HD Tall
(Been there done that!!! Have tried HD Small - OEM & Tall then got smart (thanks to this forum) and got the CLEARVIEW - problem solved for me & the wife)
Just keep in mind you won't have your clearview forat least 8 weeks! They have to "grow" the plexiglass and right now the fields are dry with no rain in site.
I too, have A Clearview and would have nothing else for touring. I had a tall HD windshield as pictured above.....height was good but the thing was flimsy and the coating started peeling at the base after a year....and I swear I never used an ammonia based cleaner. I'm running the GT Medium and it is perfect for me......worth the wait and the dinero.
I'm 6' 3 1/4" and have the 15" HD shield. Very minimal buffeting problem. As soon as i get my seat back from MCC, i'm going to measure for a clearview shield with the recurve.
