The plan was to let the dealership do the first one just to make sure everything looked good. Never said there mechanic wasn't good .. just a little to much $$$. And I enjoy doing my own maintenance .. and I'm sure my spelling or grammar could use some improvement also that is what it is .. u guys have ton of information and and I have learned a lot reading... on the other hand I thought I knew what I wanted in my stereo upgrade but after going to the audio forum I am lost ...
It's more than an oil change, and your spelling and grammar sucks.
It's not as bad as a bunch, and do you work at a harley dealer? There's a large portion on here doesn't know the diff. between theres and theirs. go educate them. now I'm the worlds worst at both, so I'll shut up. good nite.
kroozeabout.
Hell, you are lucky if they change your oil filter ! they are going to charge you for one either way. they don't do half the **** they say they do. it's a joke, buy a manual and do it yourself or get use to getting it stuck where the sun don't shine.
That was my experience.
The dealer didn't do the whole check list.
Charged me a little over $400 and they didn't even change the air filter.
I have done all my own maintenance the last 10 years but buying a new 2017 RGS and the warranty issues now days .. decided to let the dealership do the 1k oil change call them today now I know why there call stealership $360 for a oil change crazy high in my book ... but the good news they will use the oil of my choice for a extra $20 ..
Did you know what was involved in the 1K service? Did they give you a quote for the service? Did you sign & okay the service for $360 + $20 for different oil? Either way you have no one to blame but yourself. It's amazing how many guys get on here & bitch about the same thing & then call them a stealership. Do yourself a favor & buy a HD Service Manual & a HD Parts Catalog. That way you can do your own work. You should also keep all your receipts for oil/filters etc & keep a log of dates & mileage when services were done.
Ya. They're only stealing if you let them. My dealership is fair. More than fair on a lot of my stuff. So I had them do the 10k this time. It was there for storage anyway.
People say a blacked out bike is "played out" actually the term "stealership" is. It's actually pretty stupid.
But hey. Ya got a RGS. So you do have good taste. Best bike there is. Come over to roadglide.org. where it's all about the Roadglide.
The 1,000 mile service is supposed to be a lot more than a simple oil change so IF they do everything on the 1,000 mile service checklist, then it's worth it. The stealership part comes in when they don't do all of the items on the list. The mechanics get paid flat rate so they blow through it as fast as they can so they can make more money. I have yet to see one do the full list on bikes I've purchased and the last bike I even declined a free 1,000 mile service and took it to an indy.
Tell tale sign was the front steering neck grease fitting. They never grease it. What else did they skip over? Do the new one's even have a grease fitting there anymore?
Congrates on the new bike and like others say it is more than an oil change but something most people with the service manual can accomplish in an afternoon. With that said I did take my 17 RGU in for the 1000 mile service despite doing most of my own over the years I decided new engine I would let them handle the first one. My dealership charges $285 for the 1K service, while that is pricey I did not consider it stealing as the prices are posted in the dealership where you can't miss them. I was well aware of what I signed up for when I rode in so it would be hard for me to justify calling them a stealership when I volunteered and agreed to the price
