Have 2007 RK with 26k miles. Over Winter replaced OEM compensator with a Baker unit. Finally snow gone and could ride it. Primary was noisy. Went back in to the primary and changed out the old primary chain for new one. Quiet! Don't know if all old chains are noisier with new Baker unit. Just thought I would pass this on. Additionally, with Baker unit and Baker chain adjuster the bike shifts so much smoother and no clunk between gears. No more hunting for neutral either. Be safe!
There was no noise from the primary prior to installing the Baker compensator except for bang when turning off the bike. I contacted Baker and was told it could take 500 miles before the new noise went away. I wasn't going to listen to the noise for 500 miles. New chain, no noise. This old OCD guy is happy.
I had Baker(same unit OP and chain adjuster) do my install out here for the rally two seasons ago.
My wrench thought it noisier than his stock bike and so I had Baker check it out during the rally last year and they said no worries that it is supposed to sound like that(a bit on the noisy side).
Us Old Guys know to change both Sprocket & Chain, when needed ! Never put a New Chain on an Old Sprocket, or vice versa! Also the H-D OEM clutch basket is cast, it's crap! A Built up motor will tear it apart! Be Safe, BJ
