Kury makes a spacer that goes on the inside so the toe shifter is on the outside of the shaft. I have removed every one on every bike that came with them. I am just used to toe shifting and like the extra space
The threads are worn off the bolt.
I will pick up a cap and a new bolt. I will put the cap on it and have the are ready to install if I want to go back to it or trade the bike. I been looking at the 17 Ultra limited in the denim charcoal and black.

That's going to be an expensive shifter repair.

For those of you that have removed them. What did you cover the splined shaft with? Or have you just left it as is?
I didn't cover the excess shaft, I cut the excess off. All you have to do is is mark the shaft where you want it cut, then remove the bolt that holds the sifter leaver on then remove the bolt out of the arm on the other end and slide the shaft out cut it off with a hack saw, or a chop saw, clean it up with a file, and put it back together.
The first thing I do to any Harley I'm going to ride is remove the heel shifter. I take the rubber part of the removed shifter off, trim it with a razor knife and use it as a spacer when I move the remaining shifter outboard.
Never could get used to the heel shifter. I guess growing up riding dirt bikes, four wheelers, sport bikes, Dyna and a Soft Tail it felt awkward shifting with my heel.
I found a black plastic tube that fit over the splined shaft perfect and moved the shifter to the outside position, feels more comfortable on the outside to me.
No heel shifter on mine. I want room to move my foot around (I have banana boards) and I just don't like them. Softbrake sells a nice chrome spacer that goes inboard on the shaft, allowing you to move the toe shifter outboard, which I like.
What he said ... just about everybody who makes aftermarket Harley parts has something to offer here ..... I've always hated those heel shifters - they're always the first thing to go .. well that and stock mufflers ...
I had problems with my shift lever on the inboard side of the spline shaft coming loose and wrecking the splines. I replaced the damaged parts and I now use a good amount of blue lock tight on the bolts and torque them down. No problems since.
I like the heal shifter once I started using it. To gain room for my foot I installed floorboard extensions from V-Twin Goodies that move the floorboards out one inch. Then I found a shift lever on eBay that's two and a quarter inches longer than stock and replaced the heal shifter with the longer one. Next I moved both shifters down from the stock position so I don't have to lift my toe or heal as high. With the floorboard extensions and the heal shifter extension my heal shifter is level with the foot board when fully depressed as you can see in the pictures.
