I did the heritage style bars on my 13 rkc. i had the same pain between the shoulder blades and the bike was not enjoyable to tour on. the bars took about an hour and a half to change and I added a drivers back rest. No pain even when riding all day! 100 bucks for the bars from the dealer....
It all depends on you. Actual height, inseam and arm length. I'm about 6'0", 32" inseam and 74" wingspan. I tried a couple different bars. Settled on Khrome Werks 10" Bobber Apes. Great wrist angle. Easy to manage in tight areas. And the pain is gone. I can ride all day now with no issues. Just have to find what fits you. Good luck on the search.
A change is riding position will cause you to use muscle groups differently. I've experienced this with mild changes to riding position on many bikes. Exercise, stretching more riding will help. No real need to spend $1000 on new handle bars.
Nope it's not a heart attack, but the handle bars on my RK. I upgraded from a Sportster to a RK and glad I did. But, I get a pain between the shoulder blades that I never had with the Sportster.
Do I need different bars, or a different position of the existing bars? Suggestions welcomed.
By the way the RK is a 2012 and has stock bars.
In advance, thank you.
Had the same problem when I bought my 09 SG. Stock bars got changed to 10" yaffes after first season. Pain was gone and ride comfortably for hundreds of miles now
I had Heritage bars on my 11 RGU. The RK and the RGU share the same bars. They were comfortable to me. I just put 12" Factory 47 bars on my 16 RGS. The stock bars suck for sure.
But here's the thing I get sore no matter the bar. Don't know why but I squeeze them. When I notice I relax and it goes away.
I installed 10" yaffee monkey bars about 3 weeks ago. Relieved all the pain I was experiencing between my shoulder blades. Probably the best purchase I have made for my bike as far as comfort is concerned.
I had the pain between the shoulder blades your talking about with stock bars on 2 different bikes. Installed the 14" Wild Ones, now 1200 + mile days several different times & zero back or shoulder pains!
