I finally decided to take the cover off my bike after sitting all winter. There was a small puddle of oil on the floor near the back wheel which originated from the right rear shock. Never noticed anything last summer. I guess the bike was never parked long enough in the same spot. Time for new shocks and not HD shocks. I'll be glad to get rid of the air shocks.
I'm looking at Progressive 412's. I don't want to break the bank. If you have the 412 shocks, what is your experience with them. Are they good value and of course good ride quality?
I think the Progressive 444's long ride HD's are a better value, long term. Or you spend the big bucks on the Ohlins from Motorcycle Metal, forum sponsor.
I've got the 412's on my Dyna , but IMHO I think the 412's on the tourers may be a little light for the load. The 444's may be what you are looking for.
There are zillions of shock threads on HDF! Some members are happy with the less expensive shocks available but many aren't and it can get expensive trying several of them, as well as wasting time. It is cheaper to take a leap into the better end of the market and buy once, so get the benefit of a sponsor like Howard of Motorcycle Metal, mentioned above and give him a call.
Thanks for the replies so far. I think I should have written the words "I don't want to break the bank" in bold. Take a look where I am. The Canadian dollar absolutely sucks right now. Ohlins aren't even on my radar. Way too pricey.

On a budget, go to eBay, HD Forum classifieds or Craigslist. Google Google Harley premium ride hand adjustable shocks. You can get new take offs (12") for around $200, if you can find 13", they are a better option. The 12" will lower the rear of your FL about 1/2", which is fine. Are they perfect, no but better then the air shocks and a quality shock. New from Harley they are $500+
I have 412s on my dyna. Factory replacement and nothing more. I really should have went with better shocks. Only preload adjustment which is useless Unless the dampening is perfect. I should have called Howard...
I just replaced the air shocks on my Road King when one started leaking. I went with Progressive 430's at $449 for the pair on Ebay. I've had 444s and 944s. I must admit I was pleasantly surprised at how well they work on the RK. The ride is quite good and those are pretty low priced.
