Good choice of words! One of the things OP needs is good dampers for his shocks!

figuring out a seat can be a real pain in the butt....and expensive. I bought 3 seats and a back rest before i finally found one i could ride in for a full tank or more. i had an Ultimate, a Mustang and the Holy Grail for me was the Day-Long by Russell. Its custom made for the rider but it costs $$ but like others have said, a good seat is worth it if you want to ride a lot. Mean City Cycles have had lots of praise in this Fourm. Back rests help too as mentioned. good luck with your search. it can be a long slow journey till you find the right one.

I have been looking at seats also and it is real tricky. The only way I would pay high dollar for one is if I was able to use it like those dealer demo seats. I have bought and sold seats off Craig's List trying to find a good seat. Right now I have some kind of HD seat that I think came off a Electra Glide or something. It sets me taller on my RK but it's pretty comfy.

Some shops have a program where you can 'use a seat' to see if
it is to your liking or not.

Or you can call Allen at MeanCity Cycles and describe where you feel
the pain, and he may have suggestions where his seat mod may help.

An adjustable backrest is valuable, as are hiway pegs.....

Choosing a seat is almost as fun as choosing ape hangers !!!
Both can be quite expensive if its a trial and error method.
After doing a bunch reading/searching I decided to have my seat reworked.
If you want an off the self seat, I would recommend trying them out before buying.
I have seen to many people selling that seat they just bought to fix there comfort issues.
Do to my tall stature I also had other issues to address though.
Like flat footing it, comfortable riding position exc.
So I went to someone to have the seat cut & molded to my @$$ and repossession me on the bike.
When I trade up this seat is not going with the bike.
Ow and the adjustable back rest's rock.

Not to hijack the thread, but it's not just one's butt that is affected by the seat. The stock seat on my 2016 RGU kinda squishes certain parts - it seems to rise too sharply up front, where the seat meets the tank. I need something that either raises my butt, thus relieving pressure, or something that gives me more space between the tank and the seat without seating me further back.

I here you on the seat thing. My stock seat is a pain but I picked up a touring seat on CL, it's comfortabl but a little big and it sits me 1" taller.

It says HD on it but I am not sure. It is very comfortable but puts me an inch higher. The front has a longer tongue that goes up the tank more than my stock one and the passenger area is much bigger. It also has an opening for a back rest. But I am not sure what model it is but it looks near new. The guy that sold it to me was short so he probably had issues with it.

The road king seat is an awful afterthought by Harley. I am partial to mustang seats but anything would be better than what you have stock. I do agree with everything that others have stated though. The drivers backrest and the shocks are all in the same vein for improvements.
