I have my tour pack torn completely down for paint. There was an
"RTV" looking stuff (white) on the inside sealing the light when installed. There was also a black "Tar looking" (for lack of a better description) adhesive that wasn't completely hard/dry. So to speak,,, behind the assembly. What is that stuff, and do you get it from the dealer? (sorry, obviously have not checked yet)
I'll be putting it back together this weekend I hope...
Dealer says if the black glue/stickum isn't gone off the lens it can be reused. I think some stayed on the pack. Or put a little silicone back there to reseal. The inside is basically an RTV, I'll go with black I think.
I reckon any good quality sealant will do the trick, available from many auto supplies shops. I suspect the main reason for it will be to keep water and rain out. I painted and rebuild my old tourpak many years ago and did just that - bought another modern one recently as a replacement, so that will have to come apart for paint soon!
