Still have the softail, traded the Electra for a Shark.
I have the best of both worlds.
If I had it to do over I'd have done it this way^^^
Sold my custom because the wife hated touring on it. After her 2nd back surgery I gave in. She's on her 3rd now and barely likes to get on any bike period.
So now I have an excuse to build my rigid if she ain't going with me!

I had a night train went to a road glide. After I got highway pegs I feel like I'm riding my softail again. Missed it for a while. After I get apes on the glide ill never miss it again.

You won't regret the road king. May take a few mods but that's to be expected.

Don't mean to hijack, but this seems an ideal time to ask about going the other way. I have an 08 Road king with over 86,000 miles, am 6 feet tall, and 72 years old. The King is a hand full in the garage, on gravel and the like. I am concerned that if I lose my footing, I won't be able to pick it up in the next year or two. Was seriously considering a Heritage Softail after the 100,000 mile mark on the King. What won't I like about the Heritage after the King? I still make a few trips and do 700 mile days and the rest of the time ride "therapeutically" as much as I can. A little lower and a little lighter are the main benefits I see in the Soft tail but have no desire to get into a bone shaker situation or be worn out at 200 miles.

I put 45,000 miles on a nightrain before trading it in on a Road King. I loved the nightrain. My commute had increased and I wanted a little more comfort and storage space. The only thing I miss about my nightrain is the look. The Road King rides so much better, handles better, ten times more comfortable, the windshield is awesome, Cruise Control!!! You will miss the softail because of your attachment to it but once you put a few miles on the Road King, you will wish you had done it sooner.

I currently have a Road King and a Limited. The Road King is my preference of the two unless on a long trip or my wife wants to ride with me. The Road King has the benefits of the touring family and since there is no fairing, still light on the front end and a low center of gravity.

You wont regret the switch.

I have to agree... I bought an Ultra Limited (same frame as a RK) and was going to sell my Heritage (softail).

Couldn't do it... two totally different feeling bikes. The Softail more raw, more vintage Harley feeling. The Limited very comfortable on a long haul..

I thought I would eventually gravitate to one over the other... yet I still ride both quite frequently...

Obviously the multi-day trips are on the Limited, and most of the around town, day rides on the Heritage...

I still enjoy them both!
