A bike is only worth what someone will pay for it. KBB puts an 04 FLTRI in excellent condition at $9815 retail. If you're happy, that's all that matters.
The 88 is a fine engine, you won't have any issues running highway speeds. I ran my 06 to 70K plus. The only drawback to an older model is that the other things (Ruber bushings, fork and shock seals etc.) start to dry rot/ wear out due to the age.
Ok all. So I'd like to hear some comments. Pretty confident I am gonna seal the deal on a Showroom 04 RG.
Bike has 20k on the odometer. The Cam tensioners have not been updated( but have been checked as recently as 1k ago and are still looking great.) New brakes , new rear tire , pretty new front tire. All the footrests, grips, and mirrors have been updated to the Harley Willie Skulls. Brand new set of day makers on the front , chrome punisher themed horn cover. Stage one kit(Screaming Eagle Air intake , fuel pak, V and H ovals) Cruise, driver and passenger back rest , quick release tour pack ready. Heat shields on pipes and on the thigh area. Pretty rare metallic gold color not seen too much in these parts. The chrome is all polished like the day it sat on the showroom floor. Really shows owner took pride.
9k out the door is the going price( private party so. O sales tax or dealer fees ). . Feel like the condition, care , and upgrades warrant the premium price. Anybody feel that's way to high? Going with this 04 leaves me cash in my pocket , and possibly room for the wife to grab her own ride by the end of the season.

I'm not sure of your exact location but in the midwest you can find way better deals than what you are posting. I am also in Kansas City area and just bought a Road Glide last year in September. My personal opinion is that if you are going to spend the money get a 2009+. It will get you new frame, 6 gallon tank, 6 speed, fly by wire, wider rear tire, ABS brembo braking. I bought my 2010 Road Glide Custom with 18,000 miles, detachable touring pack for $12,500 before tax. I completely love the bike. I rode a 2003 Road Glide which is basically what your looking at and I'm so happy I didn't buy some of the others I was looking at. I owned a 2005 Super Glide and the 88TC engines are very solid as long as the cam chain tensioners are addressed. If not they can mess up pretty bad. The biggest difference is the 6-speed transmission. It is very nice to have especially on the highway.
Strangely, the older Road Glides get pretty good money around here. I think $9,000 is a fair deal for what you are getting, but not a great deal. Once in a while a 2009 or newer touring bike pops up here in Oklahoma for around $9000. But as said, those 88 Road Glides ask for a premium.
While I commuted 90 miles one way on my '99 roadglide at 80+ often, that was back in ''99-'00. Today I wouldn't go older than '09 just because the new frame is a lot better and '14 up is better yet. I'm thinking of quitting riding and selling my '09 for $10k+. I'm sure it will take me a while longer...
