No, Just making chit up. I agree it would be nice to have the option to have or not have. I think the '17 Specials are pinstripe delete though. I actually liked them on my '15 SGS. Takes away the plain Jane look to me.
You know there are people that believe what they read here....
I chose not to get a '16 RGS because I didn't like the pinstripes. I bought a '16 RG Standard in vivid black instead and then made it mine. Looks best without the pinstripes (IMO) and stands out better when next to the same model with pinstripes.

The MOCO eliminated the pin stripes on 17 SGS & RGS. They told the employees in the paint shop that the majority of people don't really want the pinstripes but it was more likely a way to cut costs. Maybe they will do the same with the 18 Ultras when they start cranking them out two weeks from now.
When I pieced my vivid black 14 RK (double stripe) and added SGS front and rear fender and side panels, then I found some CVO style bags with the SGS stripe already "color matched" and I bought them, they weren't matched, They were done by some idiot that had no business doing pinstripe. Wrong color and don't line up. So I was weighing several options and finally decided to do the whole thing in Starlight Black with no stripes. It is a CVO color and looks deep black but in the sun it has metallic in it. I am pretty excited. I tried a can of Colorite with clearcoat $35 on Amazon. It did ok, but I used it on the Ness rear fender extension which is a small piece and didn't come out like I would have liked. Too much orange peel. I have to cut and buff it but I am going to use a quart and my spray gun when I do all the big pieces. including lowers and tourpak
You can stop by any fairly large bike ralley and ask the guy doing pinstripe to run black pinstripe right over the factory stuff. You'd probably be surprised how many times I've seen this done.

lol, yes I wondered what was going on. These discussions have been going on for at least 10 years. There is no easy or cheap way to get rid of the stripes. Many have tried.

My bike is vivid black and had the stripe painted in flat black. You can't even tell that it's there unless your right in front of it, get compliments all the time👍
