Exclamation Wtf?!!

So riding home notice a little something on the tank, thought it came from another vehicle, then all of a sudden it was everywhere, stopped at a light realize it's fork oil, so I'm thinking catastrophic fork seal failure.. I was very close to home so I just limp there, pull in the driveway and oil just starts dripping like crazy. Get in there and get a closer look and find this!! Anyone ever seen this happen before?

Is the other side like that? With a 41mm the axle must be off kilter if one side is down an inch or 2. Please take pictures of the wheel, both lowers, and the other tube at the top. I'm glad you made it home in one piece. That could of been bad.

Some screw ups or failures are remarkable, this is one of them!

Cap not installed tightly in the fork tube, fork tube not clamped in the lower tree, vibration shaking it all loose, fork tube sliding down. Nice!

So, who did the last fork work?

That had to be acting up for awhile, not to be noticed...do you look-over bike before heading out on rides?

That about sums it up! When was the last time the fork was worked on?

Well done for getting home safely. Those of us who have serviced or dismantled our forks will truly recognise what we can see there. A full strip and rebuild is on the cards, I suggest.
