I've always been an electraglide kinda guy, and still am, but I've added a new RK to the mix. Can't stand the grip angle on the bars. Almost painful for me.
Are there bars out there that are about the same height as the RK bars but with a grip angle more like an electraglide?
I'm not sure what year Road King you are referring to, nor do I know the grip angle on your other bike. What I can say is that one of the most popular non-ape bars for Road Kings are the "Heritage Style" bars that Harley sells for touring bikes. They are an easy DIY swap that can use all existing cables. I have put more than 50,000 miles on mine since I did the swap and still like them.
Had the same issue on my 07 classic. I ended up replacing them with RK custom bars, just the right amount of pull back and height for me and was able to use my stock cables.
Swapped the stock bars on my '03 RKC to the Heritage bars. It made a big positive difference, and was easy to do. Just used the stock cables.
I think the new(er) Road Kings come stock with the Heritage or Heritage style bars. If you are close to a dealer, go in and sit on a few so you can get a feel for the different wrist angles.
I had an '08 Road King and had the same problem. I purchased a set of ROAD KING HIGH BARS and cut the notch for the TBW and a hole to allow the cables to leave the bars and enter the headlight.
They were awesome until I decided I wanted to be a 14" apes guy...
You have heritage style bars on your road king from the factory. They are not the same as the heritage bars that come on the heritage classic. The grip angle on the stock bars was all wrong for me . They made my fingers go numb. My wrist angle was not straight. I modified heritage classic bars by cutting the knotches for the tbw and the hole for the internal tbw wiring. They were much better but I wanted a little more height so I finally replaced them with Khromwerks 12" apes. They are the same as the heritage classic bars but 1.5" taller. Couldn't go any higher without extending the brake line and thats a whole other problem.

I also had the crappy Heritage "style bars. Went with Khromewerks 300326 14" bars, which are actually 12 5/8" bars. They're also 1.25" diameter ,look and feel great with HD nostalgia grips.
