..... i love Nebraska, consider dropping south off the freeway @ Lincoln to 136 in Beatrice, great rolling hills road as an alt. to the drone of I80. Drop south again @ Alma & take the diagonal 383 to Colby/I70 & roll straight into Denver
......... could be damned hot crossing the plains in mid/late July

There's lots of VRBO condos available in these ski areas for reasonable prices during the summer. This is a favorable way to go for groups since the costs can be shared. But ask about maid service, towels, bed sheets, cleaning fees, etc. Sometimes these are not included in the basic rental fees.

We always stay at the Rodeway Inn in Gunnison. Clean rooms, not too expensive and a very nice family that runs the place. I believe they ran $79 last year. You can do a lot of riding by staying in Gunnison. Have a good time!
