Anyone have experience with Cee Bailey's Replacement Windshields?
I cut my stock '14 RK windshield a bit too low (2.5-3.0" off the top) and am getting wind buffeting at my eye level. I had to start using a strap on my riding glasses to keep them from vibrating. When riding, I need to look over the windshield and not through it. I thought I was cutting my stock shield at nose level but I went a bit too low.
I'm thinking I might order Cee Bailey's 16" standard FLHR windshield with a light grey tint. They offer one free re-cut if the shield is too high. They claim their shield is a bit thicker than stock.
Also, how many inches high is the stock '14 RK windshield? I believe its 16" from top of headlight cut-out to top of windshield. The top edge of my stock windshield was right at my eye level and in my line of sight.
I've not had one of these, but I have seen a lot of praise for these on this very forum. Some consider these the best of the windshields available, although there is a LOT of love for the Long Ride Shields. One REAL important thing to keep in mind, no matter what windshield you end up with, is to NOT over torque the fasteners, and this is something that's REAL easy to do. I've learned just to barely snug 'em up, using Loctite 242 blue or shellac, whatever your poison is. When it dries, nothin's goin' nowhere. (yes, I know, double negative).
I had 1 for my '08 Road Glide but took it off after a few rides and put the stock shield back on. I put a LSR on my Ultra limited and I love it. A very good shield for a good price. The lip he puts on top works good. He has 40 or 50 percent off sales all the time. I've still got the Cee Bailey's downstairs in the box.
I cut two shields so far. I taped over the intended cut-line on both sides of the shield with masking tape. I used a 24 tpi (tooth per inch) jig saw blade. I laid the shield face-up on a towel on a kitchen island table. Make your cut at medium speed to keep vibration low during the cut. Take your time and this method will make a nice clean cut. The shield did not splinter or crack. I used medium and light sandpaper to round the edges.
Another vote for Long Ride Shields.
I'm not touting they are any better than cee Bailey's, but I can attest that they are excellent windshields, with outstanding customer service. And the fact they are a site sponsor sold me.
