Typical? I know it is in my car but not sure about the HD...
I don't plan on having it tested to find out... I'm just curious...
I might arrange to have a co-worker put a LIDAR Beam on me and find out but just wondering other's experience...

You'll find this to be true of your car as well. Car and motorcycle manufacturers dont want to face lawsuits when people get pulled over for tickets, so the speedo will always say you are going a few MPH faster than you actually are.
Your GPS will be much more accurate.
And yes there are tuners out there that can calibrate your speedo, but dont forget, its dependent on many factors - wheel diameter, tire profile, tire inflation, etc.
So your GPS will always be a more accurate measure of your speed.
yup, they all lie. i asked if it could be corrected at the stealers and they said no. i think its a ploy by HD to rack up the mileage faster than it actually does. for every couple of hundred of miles i ride, it adds a couple of miles more than the gps. gets you out of warranty quicker....lol
My Speedo read about 3mph over my GPS at cruise speeds (60-70). Don't pay much attention at lower speeds, but maybe 2ish over at 40-45.
Main reason I know this is I went for a ride with a guy yesterday who was leading and planted it right at the speed limit. It was just the 2 of us, so I got the stack of cars behind me who were aggravated that we were running 3 under the limit. Happened to have my car dock app running on my phone, which has a GPS Speedo on it. Guess his 15RG is off the same as my 11 limited.
We got passed a bunch until the first fuel stop, and I asked him to pick it up a little, lol.
