starter
My 2008 Harley Electro Glide starts great cold. After you ride a while and then stop for a few minutes say to get gas and the bike is warm it starts as if the engine is kicking back. Do you think this is a starter problem or something else.
Just a Harley motor thing. Mine does the same. 08 Electra Glide.
Hasn't done it since I had it bumped it up to a 103 and had automatic compression releases installed.
Sounds like you need compression releases.
When it's hot start the bike immediately don't leave the key on and let the fuel pump prime like you normally do when it's cold. Got this info from a member on here as I was having the same problem and now it hasn't done it at all since I've been starting it this way.
If the problem persists and gets worse, look at your compensator. I had the same issue and found the stock compensator spring was wearing and getting weaker. After my compensator replacement, my problems were cured.

1st i have w few questions,
1) How old is the starter and how many miles are on the bike/starter?
2) What type battery do you have (Std lead acid/AGM/Lith?) & who mfg's it?
3) What's its age & CCA rating?
4) Do you use maint charger on the battery & whats it's output (amps)?
5) Is the maint charger on the battery 24/7 when bikes not in use?
A somewhat weak battery & or somewhat tired starter are what generally cause the hot start issue your describing.
A bad or weak starter drive/clutch will generally do things like grind at times while engaging the ring gear & or may kick out (back off) ring gear early before motor fires or as its firing at times too not generally causing slow turning over or kickback of the motor while trying to start hot.
The reason why it cold starts better then when hot is because the starter and battery are heat soaked when your restarting the bike hot (like for example post fueling up) which in some cases can reduce the starter & battery operating efficiency/power output too.
BTW,another reason a bike can start better cold then hot can be if you have a maint charger on the bike/battery so battery is always at it's highest charge capacity when cold starting.

^^This^^. I do this cold or warm. Bike usually starts in a second. Maybe my starter will outlast me?
