Default windshiel center brass insert

the center insert comes out of fairing making it unalbe to tighten the center screw to hold the windshield (05 Electraglide Cassic).at first I just tapped it in and used locktite for the screw and didnt tighten it very much.then took it to the shop to work on something else and they went ahead and pulled the insert out again by trying to tighten it .so Im thinking of tapping it in again with some glue or something.has anybody found some sort of glue or something that would work well for this application.thanks in advance.

I have replaced 2 on my '05 Ultra. The replacements are threaded. Simply screw them in and they will not pull out.

Not sure about the part number but I got replacements for all three of mine. You can get them at the local dealer. I think mine were five bucks each.

The part number is 16585-96. Use a 3/8" bottom tap in the insert holes and the screw in the inserts. I replaced all of mine with these and they work great.

I've replaced all of mine as well. I don't know the part#, but the dealer gave them to me.

The boss that holds the insert cracked on mine (after the first dealer service strangely enough). I had to break out the dremel and carefully cut a grove through the webbing that the boss is mounted to. I only went deep enough to be able to run a zip tie around it. I used some JB Liquid Weld and drove the insert in, then tightened the zip tie tight with pliers and a screwdriver. That was 3 different windshield and 10k+ miles ago and still holding. Good luck!!

Do you have to take off the outer fairing in order to tap the holes for the replacement inserts?
3/8 tap?

Thanks,

Yes, tap it first but do not use a screw driver to insert the new inserts cause it will snap
the slot, use your screws to screw in the new inserts, this works very well.
