Replaced with the harley combo tach/speedo part #70900072A. It works properly, only thing I can twist it slightly to the right. It doesn't move when riding just a bit annoying. Perhaps the gasket didn't get seated properly? Any ideas?
Only ideas I can come up with are;
1) You reviewed removal and installation procedures as outlined in your service manual (in conjunction with the kit instructions)?
2) Thinking back, you're certain you tightened all fasteners?
3) Any original gaskets to be re-used that maybe got overlooked at reassembly?
Might be worth disassembly to check, as it may not be water tight if it is supposed to be by design.
Sorry if these sound juvenile, and certainly not meant to offend, but it's easy to make mistakes on the simplest of repairs/mods, and like most, I hate going backwards.
Did you do the work yourself or did your local dealer do it ? The reason I ask is there is usually a bracket that bolts to the bottom of the speedo and holds it to the housing and that may be loose.
HD speedometers are NOT water tight. Early this spring, I replaced my Dyna speedo that I had been bitching to the dealer about since I bought the bike new. It would always fog up after a rain storm or after a bath. I never used a high pressure washer on it, only a water hose.
