Was tinkering with putting 41000087D on my '17 Road King, but per the HD website I see "FINAL SALE, NON-RETURNABLE". Usually indicates HD is more than likely coming out with a new system, revved part or shelving this altogether (unlikely). Anyone heard anything on this? Your guess is as good as anyone's, but non-returnable parts aren't that uncommon. Could be the unit "marries" itself to the VIN (like the speedo), or they're getting ready to update them, or who knows?
the 18 colors are so poor, they are dropping security as an option as no one wants to steal them.
security will be an add on opition on 19 bikes, for an additional fee, that fee will be a monthly subscription fee. it will be part of your payment. miss a payment, the bike will not start, be late in a payment, you will only get to ride on inclement weather days so HD can get real world test data on how the new models hold up in the rain.
at least thats what i was told by the husband of the administrative assistant of the designer at HD that works on the tssm module from India via satellite.
Vehicles with contactless security are dead easy to steal, so I wouldn't want a system with that feature - it ain't secure! We bought a new car a while ago and passed on that optional extra.
it's just one more layer in your security plan. at least with the security, if you lock your forks, the thief that comes along with channel locks and destroys your switch will still not be able to start the bike. he'll be riding off on yours though.

International spec Harleys, like my 1990 Glide, came with an additional steering lock in the side of the steering head - the stock ones aren't man enough for some markets! Contactless security systems are not secure and easily breached.
When a scoot is stolen the thief does not start it and ride off on it. They pick it up and put it in a van, trailer or truck. The only thing that may help the owner keep it secure is a gps tracker to hopefully find it before it gets torn apart.
