Default '06 Road Glide

Well I think I've found the bike I've been looking for - an '06 Road Glide, black cherry, stock with 5184km (3100 miles) on it for a reasonable price ($Can18,300 about $US16,600). Gonna go look tomorrow and if I like I'm gonna buy.

This will be my first HD bagger or BT(got an '05 Roadster right now) so any tips on what to look for would be appreciated. Any problems I should know about?

Thanks,
John

All I can say $16,600.00 for a Stock '06 RG isn't really a steal... In less then 30 days the '08's will be out & your on a 2 year old Putt..
You would be better off getting the '07 RG for a few $$$ more

Buddy picked up an '06 RG Loaded with Skull Bling-bling - And the Stage 1 w\ V&H long Shots & 3 windshields last Oct for $16,500.00...

That's not too much in the way of mileage, but I did see NEW 2007 RG's in Daytona last week (on showroom floor) for $15,900. I think he said he'd Fly ya in, if you but the bike. It was the "main" dealership in Daytona Fl. I believe it was on I-95. Owner name was Russmeyer / Rossmeyer or something like that.

Thanks for the comments but I probably shouldn't even have mentioned the $$$ cause pricing is different up here in The Great White North and importing a bike from the states is just too much hassle for this old fart.

What I really need is some info on what to look for in the way of problems. I'm not new to bikes just new to HD's.

Thanks
John

If its a hassle to bring a bike up and you dig that road glide, go for it.

The '06 has the then-new Harmon Kardon stereo headunit and since its release HD has issued some software updates for it. I am not up to date on these and perhaps someone else can chime in on the rhyme and reason for them.

If the bike has replacement mufflers, true dual exhaust, and/or high flow air cleaner, the bike should have had its electronic control module (ECM) recalibrated for the increased air flow of the engine. It may also have had a fuel managment device added to it, such as a Power Commander, Fuel Pak, or a Screamin Eagle Race Tuner to allow tuning of the ECM by an HD store, indy shop, or owner.

Hope everything works out for you and enjoy your new Road Glide.

Hey there

The updates for the HK radios have been a real problem for lots of us--especially since most dealers know nothing about them or just plain ignore them. When I got my 06 EGC I was told not to use the CD player, and that HD would release a fix that could be burned to a CD and installed myself, or at the dealer. I have the updates all on a "hidden" page at www.hogtunes.com/softwareupdates.htm. If you click the download button, it will put all the updates, and instructions on your computer--its easy if you follow the instructions and burn the updates to CD at the SLOWEST SPEED (1x)

V7.8 was the original software that came in the radios in early 06 model year--this version was in all radio for approx the first 4-8 months of model production

V8.9 turned the radio up and made it so that the artist name and song title would appear on the radio screen when using a home made MP3 CD. Was also to take care of severe skipping issues

V8.11 fixed issues with CB radios is ultras, and also stopped clocks from gaining time--usually upto 5 minutes per month

V8.18 was "leaked" right before the Moco went on strike--dont know for sure what this one did

V8.19-POISON! May cause your radio to lock while doing the down load-also was to stop clock from gaining time (2nd try??) Also was to adjust the aux input to work better--does not help--and it appears V8.19 also turns radio DOWN. If any amplifier is on the bike, V8.19 causes trouble codes on the bike--the amp runs the speakers, not the radio, so the bike thinks the speakers are blown--and shoots the codes. V8.19 was also to deal with bike randomly picking source when bike gets turned back on (AM/FM/CD/ WB etc)

My take is that all 06/07 bikes should have V8.9 minimum for best sound/volume. Install 8.11 if you have an Ultra or a speedy clock. AVOID V8.19--if you already have V8.19--put V8.9 back in and all is OK

V8.19 was officially released as the Moco came off strike and I think it was released in a hurry. I REALLY hope the next update will take care of the volume/trouble code etc issues V8.19 causes

As always--here to help--PEZ

I have a 06 and love it. There was / is anissue involving the injectors. I still have the original 8° injectors and have not had a problem. HD did switch out a lot of bikes to the 25° injectors due to cold start / running issues. That is a free fix service bulletin. Considering you northern location itmay come up to be a issue. My radio has given me no fuss. Since you stated the bike is stock you should not have any problems. If you switch out pipes, a/c etc. then obviously you would look into different fuel management systems.

Considering your location I think$18,300 cdn.is a good price. You would not be able to get a bike from the lower 48 and have it brought in for less than that.

Chuck

Thanks everyone. Sounds like no big problems (I'll check the injectors etc.) so I'll see what we can work out.
