Thanks for all the advise. I have verified its not the exhaust, and after further inspection i now think it is coming from the right side and pretty sure its inside the timing cover. It sounds terrible but im just going to ride it for now, we only have another month of good riding and 2 months at the most of tollerable riding. I break into it this winter

Do not just ride this. My friends 2012 RoadGLide started with a similar new noise. His cam cratered (noise was lift banging on cam) and he ended up with new motor as it destroyed the lifter bore. I would have the cams, lifters and other parts inspected prior to keep riding.) My advice. Take it or leave it.

I'm with this guy ^^. Gaskets and oil are cheap compared to a new motor...

Have you listened to it with a stethoscope or the old screwdriver trick to help isolate the noise, I know its loudest at speed but you could bring the rpms up and listen to it.

Lotaluck, I think that is exactly what you'll need if you choose to ignore the warning sign. (A loud Tick) I agree with the others. Gaskets and oil are cheap major engine work is not.

Look inside it won't get better with time, if it's in the cam chest and the noise is getting louder you all ready have damage.
At the very least pull the cam cover off.

Your call ,, but I would'nt .....

It's not a big deal having a look in the Cam chest ... Remove exhaust system,, remove right floor board ,, remove cam cover .....
If you have to go further, (which you will to check all components), and remove cam support plate, you will have some decisions to make ....

1. Cut and replace pushrods with adjustables .
2. Remove rocker boxes to remove and re install stock pushrods..
3. While you in there,, replace lifters ,,, inner cam bearings,,, hydraulic tensioners if needed,,, oil O/rings ,, gaskets, etc ..
4. Check crank run out , (good idea to do)..
5. Hell, why your there,, cam her up .....

As I said above , it not a big deal if your handy on the tools ,,, and remember google is you friend with all the how to's ....

And to put you further at ease ,,, Its only money ......

So looks like I came to the right place, appreciate all the help. When i got home today i decided to fire it up and really try to pinpoint where it is coming from. What I found is if i put alot of pressure on the front push rods the ticking stops or is greatly reduced. I did this by taking a long wooden handle screw driver and wedging the handle between the pushrod and exhaust and using that to pry and put pressure on the push rods. Not being a mechanic I have no idea what that means but it definetly stopped the ticking.
