Default 08 FLHTCU wheel speed sensors

I will be doing a number of projects on the bike this winter, its on the table and tear down in process. One of the things I want to do is get the ABS working if possible. The light has been on and I have gone through all the steps and will now go ahead and replace the sensors at the wheels. Im having trouble locating these sensors and an thinking they may be a dealer only item. Also curious as to whether these can be take off and diagnosed as working or not?
Thanks

When my ABS light came on, I incorrectly diagnosed it as the front wheel sensor. That wasn't it. The problem turned out to be a broken wire (inside the insulation so I couldn't see it) at the front of the gas tank where the frame and neck meet. It is a common problem. If it is the sensor it is on the left side of the wheel and is the spacer on that side. It is replaceable. I have a new one if you can't get one.

Check an on-line parts website, where you can see the parts and their part numbers. Testing should be covered in your FSM, I would guess!

As stated above. My 08 also had a broken wire in the neck. Then it all started working again once I repaired break in wires.

OP,,, What if any, fault codes are coming up ??? This will help with diagnosing what areas to start checking,, ie,, front or rear sensor ,, wiring in those areas etc .... ,
It sounds that braking is working normal , (without abs), so the abs module seems to be out of the equation ....
As for checking a individual abs sensor for fault, (disconnected from connector , and removed from wheel), I am not aware of testing procedure... There may be a testing procedure that someone may chime in with.... If so, and it is a faulty abs sensor, it would save a lot of time and heartache troubleshooting the problem....

Default Abs

It appears that the chances of a broken wire are high...not a bad thing at all. The tank is coming off any way so I can expose that entire circuit and look for breaks. The ABS isnt a huge deal to me but I'm tired of seeing the light!

I dont remember the codes but I did go through the diagnosis procedure with the ecm twice in the spring and it didnt cure the problem. I will check the circuit for breaks and if none are evident I will just replace the sensors as Im removing the wheels anyway. If that doesnt do it I will live with the light.
Thanks

The tank does not need to come off for this broken wire if you don't have to. The break is right where the wire bundle goes through a holder that is bolted to the frame. It is right there and easy to get to if that's the problem. I don't recall what color the wire was though.

My wires were broke at the neck too, the wires were repaired when I bought the bike used. The ABS wasn't working. When I opened up the loom, I found the repair had come apart. The repair in the loom did not include lengthening the whole wire loom for the ABS. So I scabbed an extension on those wires to make them longer, which I believe was at least part of the problem to begin with. Be sure to turn the wheel all the way to the left and right making sure you still have plenty of extra wiggle room so the wires are not pulled tight when you do this. Then when you have enough extra wire length it's best to solder the wires and heat shrink them before wrapping up the loom to make it water tight.

Again, be sure to add more wire length before finishing the job, that's really important. Also, try not to put a tie strap on the loom where it would make the loom you just made bend at the tie strap. That I believe was a contributing factor in the break itself. If you have no other choice, then leave the tie strap a little loose. It's better to be a little lose than tight, too tight makes it break again. A little slop in the tie strap will not cut into the loom. My $.02
