Default RG vs EG

I know this has been beat to death but I ran into this article and as someone who has owned both for several years, I completely agree.

"If you’re a touring rider who values weather protection over everything else, the Road Glide will be your best bet. If you’re an average-sized person who prefers responsive steering or likes to fiddle with the GPS and other touchscreen items on the road, you’ll find a happy home on the Electra Glide."

Interesting read. I'm on my second Electra Glide and quite happy but at the time of each purchase I did for a few moments think "should I get a Road Glide"?

The Infotainment system/GPS can be controlled with the two joy sticks on the handle bar or if your using your headset you can use voice commands so there is no need to use the touchscreen while riding. I've had a 12 and 14 Ultra Limited and just bought a 16 Road Glide Ultra about a month ago. I like the RGU better in every way except the glare off the Infotainment system when the sun is just behind you while riding. It reflects the sun right in yours eyes almost like a mirror.

In the article they also said the Ultra classic had the smaller touch screen, If you look at the pictures they both have the 6.5" Infotainment system.

I agree with the OPs quoted statement. I just this week went from a 15 Limited to a 18 RG Ultra and I think I'm going to be really happy with my decision.

The wind is different, I seem to get more wind with the RG but it seems less turbulent. My limited had a calmer "pocket" but more turbulence around that pocket. Definitely less buffeting on the RG. The RG is more steady passing trucks at 80-85 mph.

The head lights are better on the Limited. The RG is roomier.

The Limited looks great from most any angle. The RG fairing looks good from some angles but overall isn't as attractive IMHO. (fugly)

Low speed and high speed handling I would give the edge to the RG. Comfort for me goes to the RG as well.

Both are great machines. The RG seems more rider friendly so I bought one.

Very interesting article. I have a 13 limited and a good friend has a 12 RGU so I may have to take a ride with him and switch bikes for a while to see for myself. I have only ridden a short distance in the city on any road glide so the country roads would definitely tell me more. Thanks for posting

The other thing that was interesting was the twin cooled bike generated a little bit more torque than the non twin cooled bike.

see now... I would have figured the EG, with the closeness of the fairing, would allow a slightly better weather protection, than the RG, which is further away
