You'll have to go with the 10's if you wanna stay below the top of the fairing.

My 10s are close to the top and KSTs are on the wide side, so can't say you won't catch some air.

I just did mine and have a suggestion. Remove the factory outer sheath and replace it with shrink tube. I bought 15' of the stuff for a few bucks on eBay. It will shrink down much smaller than the OEM setup.

Those handlebars look like a challenge!

12 inch KST's and hands are above the fairing but it doesn't bother me at all, I love them.

Thanks for posting this. I will be replacing my stock '13 FLHX bars with 12" LA Choppers shortly.
I have a few weeks to do this since its still cold in the NorthEast and have some time.
I always had my dealer do the work since I don't have too many tools or time. This will be the first time I have done anything other than oil changes.

I'm getting ready by watching a few videos like this:

I am in the middle of this and it's my 3rd set of apes I've wired internally, but the first one with an acute bend (12" KSTs). A few tricks I've learned along the way:

-Bead chain, weed-whacker string and low voltage fish tape have all come in handy in one way or another. The bead chain was probably the most helpful for getting started.

-LUBE. Go buy a $10 bottle of wire-lube and use it liberally, always helps reduce friction that little bit more.

-Don't muscle it. If it's hung up, move it back and forth or pull it out and start over. There's no scenario where pulling on it until it gives is better. At minimum you're probably stretching wires and roughing up loom and worst case you're going to rip something loose.

Overall though I think its best to just have the mindset going in that it's going to take time and finesse to do it. This being my third set it still took me a good four hours to get everything pulled internally, although this set I also ran wires for Heat Demons in the bars, that definitely added time. My biggest struggle really was getting pins out of connectors.

Anyway, be patient and good luck!

cut off the stock sheathing and wrap the wires tight with electrical tape then use heat shrink to tighten it up. also stagger the wire ends like a half of an arrow tip. I used Vaseline for lube then just take your time. I pulled the se tbw first then the controls. I had zero issues pulling the wires through the yaffees which looks like they may be the most difficult because of the peaks.
