Been riding for over 45 years. Mostly touring bikes. Last year, due to medical issues, I could not easily back up my 2013 road glide Ultra. Wanted to downsize to get the weight drastically reduced. Ended up getting a 2016 XL1200C
Started the modifications right away. Had a custom windshield built, installed analog tach digital speedo, mustang seat with backrest, added harleys Quick detachable hardware and a luggage rack and sissy bar. Just finished adding cycle visions bagster mounts and Harley touring saddlebags. DK customs floorboards are on the way and they will be installed next week. Shock suspension has been ok so far but that is going to be replaced with ohlin or pro-action this spring. Turned a new sportster into a mini bagger for less cost then a
New softail. Ended up with about a 250lb weight reduction. It will allow this old man to keep riding for a few more years (hopefully).
Nice conversion. I think a couple members in the Sportster Forum has done the same, and you can get a fairing for your Sporty if you choose to. A company called Led Sled Customs makes footboards for Sporties if you miss those. But definitely get different shocks. You'll be glad you did.
However, you might be missing the cruise and sixth gear with your new ride. One thing though, that motor is bullet-proof, so you'll have many trouble free miles. Nevertheless, it looks good!

Reason: add'l
I've seen some Sportsters decked out with twin bob tanks and thought they looked pretty good. Might give you some more miles on a tank. Lots of pictures on the internet.
nice. I read an idea of bigger tank, research that on the usable fuel, I added a stretch tank to mine and lost mileage because of the angle and placement of petcock. I just added for info. Bike looks really cool and comfy congratulations.
