Default Quick question

I’m shore (please forgive my spelling) that this has been talked about or asked before, but in getting ready to put 12” apes on my 04’ ultra, and I’ve been told that I don’t need to get any cable extensions or anything to install them. I was hoping that someone would be able to tell me if this is true and if not what ealse do I need. If this has been discussed before could some one please point me in the right direction.

Not true brother. Anything over 10"s will need wire and cable extensions.

You’ll want a longer clutch cable, throttle/idle cables and wire extensions. You may be able to reroute the clutch cable and get by, but I would go with all longer. Do it right the first time. Also, you should replace the top clamps with the updated single clamp and change the riser bushings to poly

Don’t forget to take a lot of pictures of the molex connectors if your going to wire. There are some write ups around that show wire diagrams and pictures of the connectors...but some of them the wiring is backwards...or possibly your bike is wired a little different. Don’t want to get stuck not knowing which wire goes where and try to use the posted diagrams. Happens more than I expected.

You will need to extend everything to do it right and make it safe as has already been stated.

Wink

Consider buying your apes from a source who will also supply the correct extras mentioned above - a one stop shop can save a lot of angst!

Installed 10" PrimeApes on my 2009 FLHX and, at first, didn't go with any extended cables/controls. Everything connected/worked, but it was a "bitch" re-routing, looking, thinking & finishing. Once done, found out the clutch cable was too tight (e.g. slipped when turning Right), even after re-routing. Ended up getting 4" longer cable and fixing.

Do yourself a favor, contact a reputable bar vendor and get them to sell you the whole kit-n-kaboodle. Good luck!
