Default Powder Coating Chrome

Starting the process of blacking out my FLHX and was thinking of powder coating my existing chrome parts vs. paying the ridiculous HD prices for their black components.

Anyone done this? If so, a couple of questions:
1. How did the cost compare?
2. How did the parts hold up?
3. Would you do it again?

Thanks ina dvance for the comments!

Have had a bunch of parts done. All held up very well, would do it again without hesitation. Cost depends on complexity of part, way cheaper anyway you slice it.

It works well and is cost effective. The powder coaster will sand blast the surface to give it a coarse finish for the powder coat to stick to.

I've done it before and it holds up really well. Currently I have nearly every chrome piece off my bike getting powder coated right now and it's going to cost about $450 so it's definitely cheaper.

I have had it done and my powder coater said the chrome would have to be stripped.

Had a few chrome pieces done and no issues. Was it stripped, I don't really know.

Cool whole bike ...

Yup...we've done it before and depending on the color ...just watch that nothing comes back "orange pealed" ...the gloss will show that much more than the semi-gloss...or flat ...
good luck ..

Totally agree! 'Springers4ever' that is one hell of an impressive powder-coat transformation! Nice one!

This is not necessarily true.I personally have done many, many pieces of good clean chrome w/o stripping/blasting the chrome. No problems so far. Some as old as 6,7 years.

I stand corrected. The powder coater I use sand blasts the parts to clean them and leave a better surface for the coating to "grab" on too.
