Default WTF Floorboards

For the love of god - If I scrape the F'in floor board on this pig one more time I'm gonna freak.

It's a great bike that does what it's designed to do, but I want to dive the big girl into corners like ANY OTHER motorcycle is designed to do - HOW?

Should I go to foward controls? or what?

Anyway, I just want the comfort and big twin TQ AND be able to toss her into a corner without looking over to see my outrriggers... err my floorboards making a 4th of July sparkler show.

Not to mention that "your" B hates it when I ride like this....

Less than a month - over a 1,000 miles. Going in for the Tru Trax and maybe a couple other mod for handling this week...for the love of god, someone tell me how to make my loved SG fun in the twistys!

Be careful how hard you push that bike. For years I have ground my floorboards and considered it a warning that I was getting close to the bikes limits, but didn't heed that warning as much as I should have. June 2nd while on vacation in Tennessee, I wrecked my beloved bike riding the dragon beyond the bikes limits. When you get her over far enough, she will simply lift up on the undercarriage and slide out from under you....and I had added an air suspension that fully extended raised my bike one inch over stock for more ground clearance. Your streetglide actually has lowered suspension with the 12" rear shocks instead of the 13" that is standard on the rest of the touring bikes [save the road king custom].

If you feel the need to throw a bike into the corners that much, maybe you should buy another bike that is designed more for the purpose...I was extremely lucky noone got really hurt, but my bike was totaled and now I'm starting over, if I ever get done dealing with my insurance company.[:@]

Be careful. That is a sign you are reaching the bike's lean limits.

Isn't the height of the floorboards adjustable?

Yes they are if you want move them. I am happy where mine are and that is a constant reminder that I can push but there is limits both to me and to the bike... So I leave well enough alone...

Get it raised back up to standard ride height for an EG. Hell, I stillscrape onmy Ultra, but I can only imagine how much worse it would be if I lowered it to SG ride height.

First, what bike do you own? If it is an SG or RKS with stock 12" shocks you might want to install taller shocks, like 12.5" or 13" Progressive 440's, or stock 13". If you have 13" shocks, or even if you don't, pull the floorboards up a notch, as they are adjustable. I was scraping the hell outa mine 'til I did that and now only the kickstand scrapes. It's amazing how much difference this makes, and I didn't even notice the foot position change. You will have to re-adjust the height of your shift lever, but I didn't change the position of the brake lever.

Seahag is dead on with this one. As soon as you go beyond the edge of the board and start scraping the floorbd bracket, you will be flirting w/disaster. That bracket is solid mounted to the frame and if you continue to lean any farther (once the bracket is dragging) the only thing that can happen is that weight will be removed from the tires....read:BAD NEWS!

A lot depends on "how hard" you dive into a corner. If you throw it in, and the bracket hits, you got problems on the horizon. I actually snapped the left rear floor bd bracket off once. Wifey was on back.... luckily we weren't going too fast! THe rearend jumped out 90 degrees, in an instant, and somehow... I just rode it thru and the only problem I had was a broken bracket.

The bike behind me was more freaked out then I was due to what it looked like. They just could not believe we didn't eat it. Sparks flying.... even scraped the crashbar and hwy peg! That's probably as close as one can come to the limit w/o going beyond and I don't expect to be that lucky again.

Steve is also correct.... get a set of standard length shocks. That will help a lot when compared with the short ones on the SG.

Be careful dude!

If you want to ride the way you ride and also do some touring, you may want to consider this bike. Otherwise, slow that **** down and relax.
