I'm 6'1" and ride a 2017 Street Glide with I believe an 11" Klockworks (I look over the top but just). The buffeting I get is from below not over the windshield. Some dealers have demo windshields you can try along with some aftermarket shields too, good luck in your search.
They absolutely do have fork fangs for the 17 Street Glide, I have them on mine.
If youre 58 you will NOT stop the buffeting without fork fangs or lowers. The air coming under the faring and hitting the tank is causing your discomfort.
Also, a Long Ride Shields recurve windscreen is the best bang for the buck you can get. Another advantage of the LRS is that you can use the three pouch windshield bag. You cant with Windsplitter or Klockwerks windshields.
Could you tell me where did you find the fork fangs , I would like to see about ordering some for my bikes ? Thanks
I been looking at Freedom Shields, they look good and sound well made. Has anyone had any experience with them? They have a whole line of them for the Street Glide, and they are a re-curve.
They are just down the road from me. Great quality. I just took off a ~7" curved shield to install the Klock Werks. I think my issue with the Freedom shield was the height, but I bought it for another project and another bike, so I wasn't planning on using it in this application. I went with the KW because a buddy has it and raves about it.
I'm all stock as far as windshield and seat. 5'7". Half-helmet. Always ride with all three vents open, and do not experience any buffeting. Closing the vents = terrible buffeting.
My wife is 5' 8" and rides a 17 SGS. She has a blacked out 6.5 klock werks on her bike. She had the same problem with head buffeting and tried several different shields and in the end the 6.5 klock werks was the best and she can obviously see over it since it's blacked out.
what is causing the buffeting? air over the shield? air under the fairing? go for a ride, when you experience buffeting, hold your left arm horizontally across your chest. If the buffeting stops, the air is coming from below. That proves it is not your windshield. Fangs or some form of fairing to block air flow from below will help. If your arm does not stop the buffeting, the air is coming from above, or somewhere else. Try this before you start spending money on new shields.....
