I don't believe it is a direct swap. '06 had an 88 engine with a 5 speed, In 07 hd switched to the 96 engine and 6 speed tranny. I believe mounting points changed some at that time.

You can use motor, tranny and primary from an 08 on an 06 bagger and all will match up but you have to swap it as a group. You will also need the starter.. You can't mate an 07-up bagger motor to a 5 speed HD tranny.. When doing the swap, you will need to check clearance between left swing arm bracket and primary case. Might have to use a later (07 up) bracket.
08 used FBW throttle body so you need to TB of an 06/07..

That is what i was trying to remember. You cannot swap just the engine...
