I ride an Electra Glide. I took the windshield out and cut the bottom off with a jig saw. I used the scrap piece as a template to redrill new holes near the bottom and put it back on. The cut doesn't show as it is inside the fairing. Cheap, efficient and fast. It is tapered so the alignment at the top of the fairing will be off about 1/4 inch on both sides but no one has noticed on mine.

I'm able to look just over the top of mine and do 99% of the time. Only time I look through it is maybe during a hard downpour - and that is to keep the rain off my face, not really to see, even though I can.

My 01 RK windshield was in the same spot too - right in my line of sight. Drove me nuts, so I sold it. Found out a buddy of mine cut his - and it looks & works perfectly. I'll end up getting one here in the near future - cuz getting hit by bugs & rocks sucks...

I think the perfect height is so that the top of it is right about where your top lip & nose meet - maybe just a tiny bit higher...this keeps a lot of things off of you that fly up from the road - and its not too far to duck behind if ya have to for whatever reason for short periods of time...

Haven't cut mine yet, but I will.

I'm told that on level ground you place an object on the ground 50 feet ahead of the bike. Sit on bike and then have the windshield marked and cutwhere you see that object.

I had the same problem with my stock RK windshield.
Cut it down three inches, and created a new problem.
Head buffeting at highway speeds is now terrible. I'am
going to try a Clearview windshield, with the reverse curve.
This is the way my see over snowmobile windshield is made, and
that can be driven at 80 MPH,in zero weather, with no problems.

I had a Memphis Shades on my last bike and the distortion was dangerous. I usually looked over the shield but in a tight curve, I had no choice but to try to look through it. I ended up cutting it down about 2" with a dremmel.

I bought a shorter one on my Road Kingand now I feel like I get more noise andwind slapping my face at high speeds.I later found an article that said it should line up with your nose in height. I can't remember where I saw that.

I like to look over mine. Had a guy in a truck pull over by me at a stop light and ask me what size windshield i had on my Ultra. All i could think of was stock! I immediatly thought, you must ride a Street Glide, sure enough and he was looking at something taller.

I have to admit the short deflector looks cool, but for longer distances I'll take my taller windshield.

Rode with a woman on a Softail who actually was totally encased in the windshield. It literally was as tall as the top of her helmet. I don't know how you can stand looking thru that distotion all the time. At night there is also the halo effect of the lights. Yikes not for me.
