Default Help with starting

2010 FLHTK with 29k miles. The bike has been sitting for about 3 months (I have some health issues that have kept me off the bike). The battery has been on a tender and it's showing a full charge, but when I went to start the bike yesterday what I get is a sparking sound that seems to be coming from the starter or solenoid (as if it is stuck). Any suggestions as to what I can do to troubleshoot?

Thanks!

you want to make sure your starter is not loose. check to make sure mounting bolts are tight. The starter needs to be secure to satisfy the ground aspect of starter otherwise you will get an arching at that connection point and will cause the bike to fail at starting.

Sounds like a bad connection either at the starter or the starter itself as mentioned earlier check the wire on the starter to see if it is loose if it it or if the starter is loose disconnect the battery before attempting to tighten

If the connections check out to be sound I'd have the battery load tested. A "sparking" sound can easily be a mechanical chattering caused by a battery that may not be up to the challenge and a load test is the only reliable way to judge the battery's health.

I agree. Load testing is required to see if the battery is actually dead or not. For whatever magical reason a battery can show full of juice but could have lost its cold crankin amps...or so it was explained to me. So it shows juicy but there is nothing there when a load is applied. Plus...conditions of the situation and symptoms I would totally be suspicious of the battery
