I understand the technology as well, thanks to Tesla. The man, not the company, and I understand your wanting for convenience.
The current consumer offerings, you still have to place the device onto the charger, which is plugged into a power source. Another technology is the RF type, which can charge a device a few feet away. Not going into a pissing contest with anyone here.
This is one of my points, its not just about convenience. All the in+out+in+out, etc when you are riding and stopping can wear out the cable, the connector on the phone or both.
So, if I can keep the cable attached to the mount, and just be taking the phone in and out of the cradle, that will be helpful.

Clearly you are not reading. NOT JUST FOR CONVENIENCE. I understand that a wire is plugged into the charger. Point is, its plugged in ONCE. Then all I have to do is put the phone in the cradle, thus avoiding all the wear and tear of repeated in/out/in/out
Wireless charging will depend on how many "coils" are in the charger. The older ones only had 1 coil, but the newest ones have 3-4 coils, so can charge more and faster. Still, the "cradle" that the wireless coils are installed in has to be powered somehow, so there still needs to be a cable to plug it in. However, what you might be able to do is rig up some sort of waterproof case to fit the cradle into, and have it mounted to the bike, so all you have to do is insert your phone into the case on the cradle, and it should charge. Not sure that's going to be the best option for you, though. Other options might depend on the case that's on your phone. As others have suggested, you could just get a battery case that will allow your phone to run longer before needing to be charged. I also keep a solar charging battery backup in my saddlebags in case I need a charge out in the middle of nowhere, but I would have to stop and plug it in. You can find them on Amazon or Ebay for about $12-20.
Clearly your limiting your scope for the term convenience.
For me, this is ALL about convenience. At home my phone is up on stands tilted however I want it, not flat on its back. Just lay the phone in it, and you're done.
Same thinking for the bike. Cable stays in the charger, never have to fool with it.
To each their own.
Quick update on this. I received the car charging unit from Amazon. The good news is that the cradle has a nice tight grip on the phone
Bad news is that the ball joint that comes with it is 1) too small to fit the Ram socket arm and 2) the ball attaches to the cradle in a very loose way.
So I'm going to buy a 1" Ram ball, dremel the mount part off of the back of the cradle and JB Weld the ram ball to the back of the cradle.
Should be fun.

There are car mounts that do this, so I was wondering if anyone has rigged one up for their bike? I did some searching and I dont think anyone has posted a mod like this.
Curious to know if anyone has done it, or has any practical ideas for a mod for wireless charging.
Thoughts? Ideas?
(update) Looks like this one comes with a ball mount option. I've got a spare Ram Mount setup I might try this with.
My POS Android stopped taking a charge from the cable after owning it for a year an a half and Verizon who sold the phone and Motorola wouldn't do anything about it and it can't be rebuilt so I have to use a wireless charger. I like it much more than the cable and it charges pretty fast.
Off-topic here, but you can take your phone to any Batteries Plus store and they can replace the charging port for about $35.

But, back on topic, I'm a new iphone 8 owner and I have had the worst luck with constantly plugging and unplugging phones....getting past the vibration at idle alone would be a blessing.
bought a few chargers for 20 bucks....see how it goes.....might just throw it in a window pouch with an elastic band or some ****.Try an keep it old school......
