I have had Mustang and Corbin in the past and loved them. on my new Road Glide special I went with the ultimate seat. Like what I saw and read about them. because I wanted to go solo once in awhile. Wife loves the backseat... They also have a touring version one piece just something to
. consider. I know a lot of Harley Riders do do not use this seat but I am happy with my decision

 

I've been through all these seats over the last few years.

I'm 6'2" and around 250 and as such these are my observations:

Tallboy. I replaced the stock seat with this at delivery. I liked the extra leg room but the reach to the stock bars was too far and caused a lot of shoulder discomfort for me.

I also found the seat was absolutely horrid for touring - not enough foam and it created some very uncomfortable hot spots. It was fine around town, but agony if I had to spend more than a couple hours in the saddle.

My OL was no fan either. I sat too far back into her which caused her legs to be forced wider than was comfortable, which in turn caused her hips to hurt. I ended up just using the stock seat for a while.

I later thought to try a Hammock seat.

Hammock. I realize you didn't specifically ask about the Hammock, but I'm going to opine about it anyway.

I thought the riding position was better than the Tallboy, seating me farther from the tank, but not as far as the Tallboy, and maybe a tad higher than the stocker.

The comfort of the seat was very similar to the stock seat - well padded and supportive. At first I thought it was better than the stock seat, but after a while I'm really not sure it was.

I never really noticed any "give" from the suspension though. I think the Hammock seat is best used by a lighter guy than me. I think I was just squashing the slings flat and preventing them from doing much. I checked the slings periodically, but they never slipped out of position. I came to feel the Hammock was just ok, but not great.

After a year and a half with it I was ready to try something different.

Mustang Super Touring- I didn't have this seat on for long, but I did think highly of it for the time. I liked the seating position, farther back, up a bit, wide and flatter seating surface and it wasn't as thick overall, which made it easier to swing my boot over without dragging my toe across the seat.

It is definitely a harder foam than the stock Harley seat, which I was concerned about at first, but it proved to be more supportive without hot-spot pressure points. Also being flatter made it easier for me to shift around.

Despite all that, my wife hated it.

I sat too far back into her again. The seat was way too hard for her liking. She complained about her legs going numb. I tried an Airhawk pad for her. That made her sit too high. She didn't like that. I tried sitting more forward, but would inevitably end up back into her.

We went on a little 300 mile round trip excursion one fall day and she was miserable. I had to stop the bike probably 4 times on the way back to let her get off. She was nearly in tears by the time we got home.

The Mustang seat came back off.

My current and hopefully last seat is a police seat with the accompanying Mustang pillion. I bought a roached police seat from ebay for about $50 and had our local custom seat guy pad and recover it with the same basket weave upholstery Mustang uses on the pillion.

I ride Harley at work, so I'm accustomed to the seat and have always liked them. It's not for the short guy though, I sit probably two inches higher and closer to the tank. As you're up higher and the seat is very flat, being closer to the tank causes no issues though.

The seat provides much more leg room than any of the frame mounted seats I've tried.

The matching pillion, while a Mustang again, gives my OL much more room to move around as I'm farther forward. So far, so good on her liking it!

Hopefully this is the last seat I have to buy!

 

 

I’m 6’ tall. I’m interested in anything that gets me off the tank, has a comfortable passenger pillion, and doesn’t noticibly raise you up relative to the stock seat.

 

Demo the hammock at the dealer and see how you like it.
