Thanks to all for your replies. Some very good info.
I also note that this '07 gets hotter when sitting in traffic than any of the other Harleys I've had. I know my '14 Limited had liquid cooling in the heads but my '11 SG and my '95 FLHTC were air cooled (as everyone knows) and they were much cooler than this FLHTCU.
I changed the oil and new plugs when I first bought it. As near as I can tell it is basically stock. That 'Y' pipe seems to generate a lot of heat. My right leg gets really hot when sitting still. Short of buying true duals is there any way to cut down on the heat?
yea heat is a real PIA on these things.....Like I said, I have the true duals but I also have a WARDS fan, which is now Love Jugs........keeps the heat down but it does blow it out the right side right on your thigh.......sitting still my head temp will go up to 300*....turn on the fan and in a few minutes it will be down to 235*.
My 07 Superglide ran real hot with just slip ons. I put SE intake and filter and an FP3 on it and it ran much better and a little cooler, slight mileage increase as well. Basically a stage 1 with a tuner. It was a much lighter bike though. I have an 07 Ultra now with a SE110 and will be putting fullsac true duals on soon to help a little with the heat. My 110 is getting around 40 on the highway and 35-36 back roads, I think completing the stage 1 and a tune you will see some difference. As for the heat issue, the dealer can tune on the Engine Idle Temp management system on that bike if it isn't on already, that shuts the rear cylinder off under certain "idling" conditions. Good luck.

Not sure how everyone is getting such good mileage. I average about 35 if I'm lucky with stage 1 (SS A/C, Street Cannons and Fuel Pak). I do hit the throttle pretty aggressively and routinely ride at 75mph though. I'm hoping its the winter blend gas and the summer blend will help a little bit.....

I have true duals. Right leg still gets very hot. I haven't tried them yet but I'm given to understand that a product called Crotch Cooler makes for a more comfortable ride.
There are other ways to reduce the heat. Stage 1 and a tuner should help. Or just richen the mixture with xieds, though that wont help mpg... There are also fans, oil coolers ant tank lift kits to improve airflow.

I was wondering if some exhaust wrap would decrease the heat very much. I thought maybe wrapping the 'Y' pipe with it and reinstalling the heat shields. Any thoughts on this? Any negatives about doing it?
