I'm only know about the new radio 06,07 eg....push in the volume control lever on the left hand side...a menu will show bass, trebile, display,etc....continue pushing til display is highlighted....push up for more lighted screen...down for less....hope that helps...
I've thought somewhat along those lines but also it seemed strange that the lights were a differant color than the radio. I was going to investigate replacing the lights with led's or see if it could be done... I wanted to change the lights in the guages to a red color to match[sm=bling.gif] the radio.
Try removing the instrument bulb skins Harley installs on the bulbs. This may help some. Maybe you could go to a brighter bulb. May want to check the local auto parts store.
Looks like the tac and spedo are a sealed unit and you will play hell[sm=badbadbad.gif] in changing them. The bulbs in the guages are hd part # 674450-00 and are a 3.4 wattage rating... They are the ones that you may be able to take and replace with led's but then the guages will be brighter than the spedo and tac... [sm=badidea.gif]
my 01 Eg may be different I pulled one instrument bulb
It looks like 158 but could be 168.
The link should take you to GE lighting, automotive, instrument.
Look up illumens, watt, etc
158 = 25 illumens
168 = 38 illumens
194 = 25 illumens
