Default leak :(

hey all!

finally been able to rind my 08 EG i picked up in December, today i put about 50 or so miles on it 1st real ride (only 110 since purchased) when i got back at the house when i got off the bike i noticed a tiny drop of oil on the trans cover and a smear on the rear exhaust cover that looked like my pant leg smeared it as i was riding? i looked all over cant fine whats leaking? i even removed the voltage regulator voltage regulator to get a better look at the filter area still cant find one? the clutch cable and wires that run along side of it have some oil on them right under the cam cover area but the cover is not leaking? pushrods covers are not leaking? clutch cable is dry where it connects to the trans cover? none of the covers are leaking? filter area is dry?

today i was putting along at 50-60mph at times never smelled any thing either

nothing is seeping that i can see spent 30 minutes with a flashlight and mechanics mirror sill nothing?

clueless any input would be great!

thanks

Check the rocker box bolts and gaskets. I just got my 14 FLHTK fixed today for that reason. It was leaking from the top right rear rocker bolt.

i pulled the cover to the air cleaners its dry, i checked the rocker boxes and there dry also

the clutch cable is resting on the engine base it kind looks like it maybe chafed? can the clutch cable it self leak is it wore a hole in it?

the cable from where its touching the engine case forward was saturated in oil, i cleaned the hole area up hoping to find where the leak is coming from so you really cant see it any more, what has me confused is if it was leaking where its touching the engine case wouldn't the wind from riding it make the oil go back not forward?

Clean it up real good and keep an eye on it. Possibly just residual from prior fluid change. I wouldn't lose sleep over it.

Check the inside of the air cleaner cover. As was mentioned earlier this could be coming from the breather tubes through the air filter.
Another possibility is a leaky O ring on the push rod tubes. This would get blown back into that area as well

I have almost the exact same thing as you’ve described and pictured. I’ve narrowed mine down to the crimp of the stock clutch cable just past where it exits the transmission cover. Follow the route of the clutch cable down under the right floorboard and I’ll bet you it’s covered in oil and road grime. Only fix is to replace the stock cable with an aftermarket one, preferable a braided stainless one you can lube before installing. HTH

i spent about an hour going over every inch of this engine, rockers boxes, engine case, clutch cover, pushrod covers, oil filter, cam cover, brake lines, all dry not even seeping any thing

the clutch cable is dry at the cover end but from where it go's under the cam cover forward was saturated?

matt_glide so your saying it is possible if there was a brake in the clutch cable it would leak?

Sounds like your cam cover / gasket is leaking at the base.

If the outer sheath is punctured all the way through to the inner lumen and the fluid refluxes to a level higher than the puncture then, yes, it can leak.
