Default Pipe Discoloring

i have a bad case of the browns. The first 3” or so of my Bassani DNT mufflers are gold. Need to find a heat shield or something to cover up the area. Anyone know of a setup that has heat shields placed at the seam between the header pipes and the mufflers? Maybe there is something out there that would fit....unless of course you guys have a better idea.

Sounds like you may have a lean condition in your fuel/air mixture.

First, I also suspect a lean condition on your fuel but as for shields. CVOs Touring bikes normally come with shields over the mufflers. I suspect you could find them on EBay.

I have 13 year old Rinehart True Duals on my 2000 Road King Classic. I put them on new in 2005. About 5 years ago, I had fuel injection problems and frequently ran lean, which browned both the heat shields and cans. A couple of years ago, my indie mechanic had the shields and cans re-chromed for me. They came back looking like new and two years later no signs of any recurring browning.

Back in the day...when old school was new school. ..pipes turning colors was not only acceptable, but was a small source of pride. It meant that your scoot was well ridden.

Then manufacturers began putting on heat shields to hide those colors. Now days, when many people notice chrome pipes turning colors, their heads explode.

Sno, just ride that sucker. You can' un- brown it!

Try Blue-Job chrome polish.

Definitely lean condition, the heat shields were for liability.

I had a guy dyno tune my bike about a year and a half ago. Picked it up from him and it ran like ****. The discoloration came during the couple weeks it took me to be able to get into another shop for an accurate tune. Now she runs great but I have to look at the reminder of the bad tune experience everyday.
