I find myself back in Harleyland... Been here briefly, a few times. Last one was a 07 Dyna, which left because of the horrendous beating it gave me when I tried to ride it long distances.
Now, a 09 Road King I bought for 6K$, thinking to make some money. Fixing it up to sell it right now.
And so I wonder, how many miles do 09 Road Kings go, before they need serious repairs?
Well as others have said, 100k is a reasonable expectation and as far as i know, the compensator on that bike was the big concern. Harley used the Comp that was designed for an 88 in those 96's and I think 103's If it is a screamin eagle then it already has a better Comp but if not, it could be a concern. The comp on my 07 Dyna went at 18000 miles.
Well, I care because this allows me to assess the meaning of 35K miles on this particular bike.
Then put that in your vague post

My 07 has 55k on comp nut. Around 27k I went with spring chain tensioner. One of my opinions is the auto tensioner is crap and they don;t want to admit it, and have covered up with bigger shafts, IDS, and bearings.
When I got rid of the tensioner I could ride lower RPM without clatter. Still lacks power in low RPMs.
6 speeds and bored to 95 have been around for years.. EPA stroked 96s are not a powerhouse, as most EPA engines. My other theory is the crappy tall gearing for 6th is to cook the books on emmisions.
Wish I knew the 6th gear sucked before I bought it. I thought it was a selling point
Like any other TC, if it’s been well maintained it’s got a lot of goody left in it. Buddy of mine has a 2003 (or 2005, can’t remember which) Super Glide with over 130,000 miles on it and it’s still going strong. He has replaced the cam chains and tensioners twice but they didn’t really need it. Other than that he’s done no repairs to the motor and it still has good compression and uses very little oil. Hell, he’s still on his original drive belt. He’s an auto mechanic by trade with a lot of experience working on race cars. He’s very meticulous with his maintenance and doesn’t abuse his bike.

I'm always amazed by people who think an $18,000.00 motorcycle is worn out after only 35,000 miles, yet the same people think a $13,000.00 econo-car with 35,000 miles is "low mileage". Makes scratch my head.

09 Road King Classic here with 36000 on the clock- other than the compensator taking a crap about 5000 miles ago no issues and still going strong.
BTW- that was a damn good price if the bike is in good shape. There are a lot of 09 to 13 bikes for sale around my neck of the woods and they are almost all in the 8-11 thousand price range

Thanks Bubba - the bike aint toooo bad .) No used bike is OK - then all need some TLC - and I'm getting this one together now. I ordered some rocker lockers for it and I will put front brakes and rotors on it soon...
Had wife before bike - rofl!
I was just digging into this - the compensator has come up in several threads. What did it do - how did you know it went out?
This thing seems to be for providing slippage in the connection between the motor and trans, in extreme situations? Did you put another one on, or eliminate it? Maybe the thing is loose on my bike - yikes - I hate to think what it might do if it really got loose! I read that the motor is supposed to run on 1 cyl at idle if you blip the throttle. My bike does not do that... but maybe that is involved in this idle thing?
