Default Chattering Primary

I have a 2013 Electra Glide that has a churp or chatter that is coming from the Primary Chain case when you dump the throttle. The bike has 25 K on it and use Mobile 1 oil in it. Any Suggestions?

Which compensator are you using and where do you get yours? I can’t find them on Amazon.

I had some chattering too and mine also was the compensator. The springs were loose which also caused some difficult start-ups as well. Replaced it with a Baker compensator, new Hayden chain tensioner and replaced the bearing in the inner primary. If your handy, maybe you can start by taking the outer cover off and inspect the chain and tensioner.

I have a "clatter" after shifting to second from first and accelerating after the clutch engages. It lasts maybe a half second and I don't hear it any other time and don't hear it every time. Doesn't seem to be load related so I don't think it is a knock or ping but that may be what I am hearing.
No starting issues and no clunk at shutdown.
I know a good mechanic that can diagnose noises pretty well and need to get it to him and see what he thinks.

Twin cams are noisy machines as a whole. It's hard for me to determine what's normal and what needs attention.

If the spring pack is not in spec and clattering under load, but the comp is in good shape otherwise, HD sells shims for the comps.

I installed a new Screaming Eagle comp in my 2012 this winter. It makes a clattering noise when it warms up and the idle speed lowers. This lead me into a search for information on the topic. I pulled my out and measured it. It was within specs. I then raised the idle speed slightly (I have a Thunder Max ECM). That helped but not a lot. I then replaced the primary fluid with Foruula Plus ( I was using Bel Ray primary fluid). That helped a lot. It's still a little noisy but I can live with it.

I dont know know what's going on with yours but here's what I found about measuring the spring pack and possibly adding a spacer like dawg mentioned. This is a post from another forum.

Talked to tech services yesterday and they have a new procedure for noisy comps that some people have ran into. The complete compensator will need to be removed and as it is assembled sit with the large hex facing down on the table. The depth from the top spring to the spline adapter is what needs to be measured. The spec. is .286"-.326". If it is less than .286" then there are spacers that can be used to add more preloaded. These spacers are .031" each and I believe a max of two can be used but possibly 3. The spacer PN is 10300021.
