Default Previous Owner / GRRRRR!

Well, when I bought my 2012 FLHTK about 3 months ago, the stock exhaust on it had dark exhaust stains on mufflers. Found out that the bike had a SERT and the previous owner could not locate the SERT tuner. Ended up putting a catless exhaust header and a set of Cobra mufflers. Obviously the previous owner wanted the V+H true duals and the V+H high output mufflers so he said nothing when he traded it in, just stuck the stock header and exhaust on it. No care about the engine running too rich for the next new owner. GRRRR!

Found that the previous owner had put LEDs on it, the kind that are colored lights that light up your engine area, rear wheel area, etc. When I got the bike I found old wires under the seat and double faced tape stuck under the tank, on the rear fender, and on the frame. Removed all that crap and pulled the wiring out. Plus he had spliced into the headlight connector and damaged it, so I replaced that connector as well. No more fire hazard on 2 wheels. GRRRRR!

Bought a set of Cobra power port header pipes and finally today I went to the shop to install them. After taking off the right passenger and rider floorboard, the saddlebags, the mufflers, front right lower, etc., I noticed that the bracket that holds the part of the pipe that goes under the bike in front of the rear wheel and is suppose to have 2 hex head screws only had 1 screw holding the bracket. I did not notice it before when I put on the catless header. I got to looking closely and someone, probably the previous owner, overtightened one of the bolts and broke it off. So the bracket was only being held by the 1 screw as the other screw hole had part of a screw stud stuck in it. Why and the _____ can't someone that screws up something fix it? GRRRRR!

So after pulling the rear wheel and after working on it about all afternoon, I have new set of reverse drill bits and a small new easy out and another small drill bit that I did not have earlier. If I would of screwed up, I can imagine the cost to have the HD dealer do this, or worse yet, have to retap a bigger hole. Or EVEN WORSE, I could just see that back of the transmission housing where this bracket fastens crack or break by the one hole. Then I would be up the ____ creek for sure.

With some luck and a lot of time, I was able to get the stud out and not damage the threads. Rear wheel is back on and belt is again tensioned. I guess tomorrow, I will try and get the header pipes changed.

Any of you buy a used Harley and have to fix up someone else's "F" ups, to maker things right?

What ever happened to the golden rule to treat someone like you want to be treated and not screw over somebody?

Geeze / GRRRR!

Rant over......

Phil

I bought 1 used bike. Never again. And it was not to previous owner. It was the dealership that screwed the bike up. They stole the heads and TB put stock shot on it with a stock header and air filter and left 590 cams in it. Also broke one bolt off that holds the crossover. Didn't bother to change the oil. I met the PO. So I know for sure. It was the dealer. So before ya blame someone. It may not be them. When a bike comes in on trade. Everyone that works there looks it over to take ****.

Oof, no good. I'm glad that didn't happen to me. My Roady had 50k on it, and I've put nearly 19k more and no issues/weirdness have manifested. This ride was straight stock, though, no after-market anything that I haven't put on. Great running then and now! I'm glad it was owned by someone who loved it too!

Previous owner sounds like a douche. Glad you got things squared away. 'Buyer beware' when buying used...

In private sales, beware the caveat emptor clause. .
