I am on my 3rd year on an 01 RK and have had 3 windshields. This is the first bike that I had a windshield for, I wasn’t sure what I was dealing with above 55mph but apparently it’s helmet buffeting. I have read that the top of the shield shoud be nose high. I had an old stock one, a Memphis Shade, and my last one, a Long Ride shield. The LRS is the best but I still get wind buffeting my helmet above 60mph. I even tried different helmets. It’s no fun when everything in front is blurry. I don’t want a tall one that I have to look through so for now no shield for me. Am I missing something?
I have a Clearview shield with the vent, it's not a looker but the vent has eliminated 90% of the buffeting for me. I also got fangs, but they did very little compared to the shield. I have virtually zero buffeting at 80mph
I have the Wind Splitter windshield, lower fairings and the triple tree deflector. I also wear a half helmet and have no buffeting over 80 mph. With that being said, from reading these forums it seems like there is not a one solution answer for everybody. For example the Wind Splitter doesnt work well for most taller riders.
I had the same issue last year, when I got my Roady. I had the stock shield which was ok until I got above 65, then it got much, much worse, the faster I traveled, to the point that I couldn't read signs. Once I got my Clearview Shield on, at 24" and + 3" on the width, it was great! No more buffeting! I also got mine with the recurve. Here's a shot of it compared to the stock shield.
I do look through the shield and I've thought about going with something a bit shorter, but I'm not sure about that yet. The only time it's a real bother is when it's a bit dirty and I'm riding into the sun. Sometimes, in heavy rain, it's a little difficult, but no more so than with a full face helmet and no shield. I'm pretty happy, though, not having to deal with the buffeting!
I went with a 21" Clearview windshield with a recurve on my '05 RK. I stayed with stock width on mine and I did not get a vent - in fact I'm not sure that was an option 10 years ago when I got mine. I'm pretty tall from the waist up, so I can look over the top of it - but I can also slouch down behind it when it rains if I want to. It solved my wind/buffeting issues and Clearview was good to deal with.
