Lots of us are patiently waiting, but have to consider S&S hasnt released an oil pump yet and the fueling oil pump is for oil cooled models only - for now.

If it were me, I'd wait.

might as well wait for the 2019's. There will be new left overs if you don't like them.

I want an M8 model. I am prepared to deal with the possible "issues". Please dont let this thread devolve into yet another discussion of the issues that have been discussed AD NASEUM... I'm aware of them, I am aware of the fixes, etc...

I have an 18 Slim for running around town.

Anyway I am running through 3 trains of thought here.

Used 2017. I would do an oil pump/cam plate kit from either S&S or Feuling as well as the CVO clutch push rod or $stonecold's fix(or maybe both) to fix the two biggest issues I see with these bikes. I wouldnt feel bad about doing it on a 2017 thats almost out of warranty.

New 2018. SHOULD have the latest oil pump in it from Harley so that helps my thoughts on possible sumping. While I would still feel better with the S&S parts or Feuling parts in it, I understand the newest Harley oil pump has a massive increase in pumping volume. I would probably install the CVO clutch push rod to possibly(from the reports I am reading so far) eliminate any problem with fluid transfer as I cant see Harley voiding a warranty for that. While I think $stonecold's method is legit, I am not sure, for warranty purposes, if I would want to do it on a brand new bike.

Wait for 2019's in August or September. The only thing I have heard that makes sense is the 114 motor being standard in the touring bikes. A complete frame and suspension re-design would be pretty killer too. Both are OBVIOUSLY rumor at this point. IF nothing materializes in 2019, I could still find a 2018 bike and probably make a better deal on it with the 2019's coming out. Obviously the sumping and transfer issues could still be an issue in 2019 and I would PROBABLY take the same tact as I would on a 2018.

I believe I can find just about any color I want in any of the years so thats not a huge concern. Obviously a 2017 is going to be cheaper, BUT for my peace of mind putting an oil pump/cam plate kit in is going to cost 600-1000 dollars, which eats up some of the savings of buying a used bike. I believe my dealer would make me a decent deal on a 2018. The 2019, who knows.

Anybody got any thoughts to guide me one way or another?
I bought my 15 in June of 15 and got a hell of a deal. You could get a great deal! BUT the '19's what will they be????? Get an 18 negotiate the warranty and go with it. Most M8's are trouble free... leave stock and you will have one hell of a motorcycle!

I know the S&S setup isnt released yet, but the other post says early next month. I also didnt realize the Feuling setup would not work on the twin cooled bikes.... hmm.

Im confident I could get a good deal on an 18 right now or next month. The dealer I buy from knows if they throw me a good deal I will follow through. I havent contacted them yet because I am not ready to make a move since I am still weighing my options.

if you have something to ride I say wait.

if you don't have a scooter go buy an 18. Always somethin new every year.

I remember buying my night train new in 2005, next year they had a clock on the odometer and a 200 rear tire instead of my 150.

Just ride.

If your interested in an FLHTP I have a 17 with 11k trouble free miles on it. I'd sell it 22,500 to a member on here. Being a police bike it has the larger oil cooler already installed.

In my opinion it's getting too close for the 2019 I'd wait to see what it had to offer.

Well, I ended up with a Twisted Cherry 18 Ultra Limited...

I threw kind of a crazy number at my dealer and explained that I didnt want to be pissed off in 1 month when the 19s came out if they had a bigger motor or what have you and at the price I threw them, I wouldnt be pissed off. The numbers all worked out and im happy. The bike rides fantastic although I was in heavy DFW traffic yesterday almost the whole way home. I need to plan a trip to get out and stretch its legs and get it broken in.
