Adding cruise
Buy a couple of the tiny c-clips, HD Part No. 11193, before you start. They are cheap and the kit comes with one that is easily lost. Ditto the brass ferules that secure the throttle and idle cables to the right handgrip. You can always return what you don't use and, for under $5, they are cheap insurance against having the installation interrupted by a parts search on the garage floor, between the cylinders, etc.and/or trip to the HD store for replacements. JHMO.
Easy process just takes alittle time and patience, also do as others have mentioned get a couple spare "c" clips and brass ferrules, cheap not to mention if you have to go floor diving better to just have one in the box.

Got it on last night, but haven't had time to initialize or even start the bike. Neighbors wouldn't appriciate it too much at 12:30 am. After work today I'll see if I hooked everything up right!
Problem areas:
*Cheesy (IMO) ignition lock (never had one apart before, but I'm real good at it now!)
*throttle cables
*trying to read the tiny writing on the connector you put the switch wires in
All in all it went pretty well; just time consuming. I'm fairly mechanical and it still took 4 hours.
Just hope it all works.
I had it on my RKC and it spoiled me. I can't believe this bike doesn't come with it.

I'm putting cruise on my 07 FLHX tonight. Any tips? The instructions look pretty good.

1. To install the C-clip, buy some very long needle-nose pliars. Makes the job a snap. Harbor Freight has them for little money.
2. Buy a service manual if you don't already have one. You can't do this job without it: Initialization, harness connections, etc.
3. For the proper pin connection to the harness, go to the electrical, not cruise-control section.
4. Have the process down in your head before starting and you'll have a less-tense experience. I didn't and it took me far too long.
5. It's about a one six-pack job (for me).
My hang-ups were the right-switch housing and brake-lever clamp that didn't want to go back together (30-min. lost). Also, finding the pin assignments for the switch into the harness, another 30 min. lost searching the manual. Cruise section has the pin assignments, but doesn't give you the location of the pins on the harness! That's in the electrical section. The last 30-min. delay was searching for a lost brass ferrule (throttle cable) and driving over to the HD shop in the cage to get another one (another 30 min.). Of course, after that I found the lost one in 30 sec. It was inside the switch housing, a place I searched 14 times before that.
All in all, this is the best accessory HD sells, IMO. It is very useful and I use it even in group rides when speed varies continually. It's worth the money and the aggravation of installing it.
