Has anyone done what I call the cheap way to lower yourself on your bike so your feet are flat on ground. What I mean cheap way instead of buying shocks or a lowering kit, take seat cover off and trim down the inners so you sit lower and feet will be flat on ground when stopped at traffic light or stopped at all. Just curious!

Yeah you can do that. Take an electric carving knife and go slow.

I'll be sending mine to Mean City Cycles for them to do it when I can remember to call and schedule it. It's cheap enough that it's worth just letting them do it right, to me at least. I'm not one to pay others to do stuff typically.

Yes of course we've done it. In my case to discover it isn't as easy as it seems and the results don't look as if it was done by an expert! So find yourself a local upholstery expert.....

I just did this, it wasn't very difficult, and I'm not an upholstery person. I wanted to replace the cover anyway because it had some small tears at the front, so I found a great replacement on the internet from a motorcycle upholstery place in AZ (Simon Designs - $90) and figured I would give customization a try while I was at it. If it didn't work, I was just going to buy a Mustang Touring, so I figured I didn't have anything to loose and I might save $3-400. Removed the cover, cut and ground down the foam, replaced the butt portion with a 2" piece of hospital seat memory foam from Amazon ($35), installed 1/2 batting foam over the top to smooth it out, reinstalled the thin stock cover foam piece, and stapled it back together. It seemed like it was going horrible, but an extra set of hands helped in getting the cover perfect. It looks as good or better than stock, much more comfortable, and my feet are flat on the ground. Not sure I'd recommend the project, but it can be done with some patience and only took a few hours...I actually did it twice because after a long ride I decided to take my chances again and go even lower. I am very satisfied with the result and like doing my own work on my Harley because it can be done on my time with my level of perfection.

I did it several years ago on a Sportster. Wasn’t that difficult and it looked ok. As mentioned take your time, remove the cover and start shaving. Go slow and test fit as you go. You can’t easily put back what you take off.
Good Luck

Probably the best starting point! Along with plenty of time in the saddle. I have four bikes and can only flat-foot one of them.

I called Mean City Cycles and what I needed done for my height and weight would be $155 with $25 deposit and I would pay shipping to them and back to me which the lady said typically it's $60 there and $60 back! So for what I total $155 plus shipping both ways it would be $275 to get seat cut down 1in in height and narrowed plus memory foam. I did find a Local upholstery company said that they do motorcycle seats to the customer preference, so I may go that route at least it's save me $120 of shipping.

I just made an appointment last week for Sept 12th with Mean City. Going with the memory foam to narrow it a tad and build up the rear a bit to better cup my scrawny self. $130 plus shipping.
