The battery, stator, and voltage regulator all work together...... If one goes bad, it can damage one, or both, of the other two...
If you've been through a couple voltage regulators in a short period of time... check both the battery and the stator before you replace another voltage regulator...
For example, let's say you have a bad stator, it's not producing the voltage it should and it takes out the voltage regulator. If you replace just the voltage regulator, without also checking the battery & stator, the bad stator will ruin the new voltage regulator in short order...
Obviously load test the battery, and search this forum.. there is a procedure for checking the stator with a voltmeter....
Good luck...
