Why not do your own oil change?
Bill,
The oil change is a small part of the 1K service and I didn't want to take any chances with the warranty.

I will do all of my own service from here on out and just did an oil change this past weekend...switched to AMSOIL synthetic also.

Get ya *** out and put them other 200 miles on the bike

I wouldn't let it sit either especially with it being the oil used for break in. Otherwise if was just a regular oil change I usually just let it sit until end of winter and then change the oil. I know some people are against it, but I have never had a problem. It's your choice after that first oil change, but in this case I wouldn't let it go.

I waited till 1000. I think it all depends on how bad you get on it in the 1st 1000. There is a whole website & debate out there on if you should go easy of hard. I go easy.

What if you are over 1000 miles, what happens! I am at 1250
I would'nt worry about being over. Mine was at 1700 miles before I got it in. Dealer couldn't get me in before my trip, had 800 on her at the time. Just did it when I got back. No problem at all.

My advice is to change it before you lay it up for the winter. The first oil change is the most important one. I did mine at 100/1000/2500 with a filter and got rid of the syn 3 and used Mobil 1 V Twin in the motor. Every motor has certain contaminents in it when it is built and the filter takes most of them out , however to change the oil in the begining is very important as it removes any slag that may still be in the system.

Did mine at 793 and you should do it sooner than later also - good luck!

I bought mine in June and had to get the first service done before I made the first payment. I had about 1100 on it when I scheduled the service, and 1600 by the time they got it in. They had no issues with it.

I'm doing my 1000 mile service this week. I live about 50 miles from the dealer and it's a pain in the rear to find someone to follow me out there twice. I stopped out there last week and bought all the fluids, o-rings and a gasket for the service. I told the service manager I was doing it myself and he said he didn't blame me. The new '06 Dynas have a self adjusting primary, so the 1000 mile service is a snap. He said to just keep a log and my receipts and there would be no problems with the warranty. I can understand why some guys let the dealer do everything though.. if I lived closer and had more $$ I probably would too. I used to rebuild my own engines on my race bikes, so I just can't see the need to of going through the hassle of having the dealer do this minor service. The bike runs great, so there are no issues I need the dealer to examine.

Can't hurt to do it sooner than later. Get all of the gunk out of there.
