Who makes the best warm weather riding jacket? Something that is maybe mesh with some armor. I always ride in a T-shirt when it is hot out but am wondering if there are options without being hot.
I have one from Tourmaster Cortec Airflow in white and the only place that it is hot and sweaty is where the armor is in the back. It"s a lot more comfortable than wearing a tee shirt because it isn't flapping in the wind and your arms don't get sun burnt. The downside is it looks like I belong on a crotch rocket instead of a RKC.
I hate Joe Rocket because it had so much Velcro on it I couldn't get it off the rack because it had stuck to the velcro of the four jackets next to it. A non starter.
go to www.webbikeworld.com they have rated them all. If nothing else, you will find that the perfect jacket has yet to be made.
I just bought HD's Transformation jacket. Has a water proof, removal liner, zip-off material on the front and sleeves (all one-piece) that makes it a mesh jacket. Also has removable armor.Had no choice but to ride it away from the dealership, SG bags were full of other goodies, and it worked fine. Temp was 91 degrees. Got hot on the back when sitting. Retail price was pricey at $275.00. The young lady that sold it to me said you could remove all the armor and the jacket is complety washable.
My mesh jacket is by TourMaster - the "Intake Air"and it's a VERY comfortable jacket in hot weather. It BREATHES like you wouldn't believe too. Even sitting at a red light I can feel a breeze blowing through it. This jacket is fully armored in the elbows/forearms, shoulders and up the back. It's got a removable liner for if the temps get too chilly or if it rains.
I have a perforated leather jacket from Fox Creek. Works great. It's been close to 100 here the past few days and I've been wearing it. Nothing will keep you from being hot at a stop, but it has great airflow when you're moving.
I recently purchased the HD "Ventura" mesh jacket, part no. 97284-07VM; $85 list. I chose it because it is primarily light silver in color--black or dark colors seem to feel like heat sinks to me--the black is on the sides and some on the arms. The jacket is designed for armor in the elbows and shoulder, butdoes not come with it; but I am adding the armor for the elbows and shoulders.
I used this jacket over the week-end and it was cooler with it on than off in 90+ heat in Metro Atlanta.
This is a "seasonal" item; not a stock HD item. So you may not find this style number at all HD dealerships--and, unlike a stock item, it cannot be re-ordered once the supplies are gone. My local dealer didn't have my size but found one at a nearby HD store and it was sent to my store for pick-up and purchase. So far, I'd give this jacket a big "thumbs up."
I have the H-D Mesh Jacket(link below). $150 and it's got elbow and shoulder armor. I've ridden it in 90-degree days and it's very cool, yet offers some protection.
