I bought the Glide a week ago today. I have 250 miles on the scoot so far and last night I headed to Hooters (I like the food) for bike night. I heard a horrible whine in 5th. No other gears had the whine. I went to 6th and all was good. Geared back to 5th and whine came back. Tried it several times more on the way home and same result. Has anyone else experienced this?
Welcome to the forum. You must be very new if you have not heard of this wine before. People have been talking about it since the 07s first came out. In any event, it is normal and you have nothing to worry about. The best cure for the wine is to turn your radio up all the way or get loud pipes.
Thanks for the info! I did not want to look like a putz going back to the dealer. You guys are full of knowledge here so I thought I would post here first. I will assume (against my better judgement) that 6th is an overdrive gear more so than a final gear?

Yep I never think about putting mine in 6th gear until 65/70mph. Run it like a normal 5 speed up to that point.
The gears for 5th are straight cut, and thus produce a whine. Nothing at all to worry about. You may also hear a quieter whine in first gear.....also normal.

Rode past my son-in-law last week going about 60mph and because of the noise from the tranny he said it sounded like I was riding a rice burner.
